To mark World Earth Day, JogOn is delighted to announce its new partnership and initiative with the Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) to expand its commitment to sustainability.
JogOn is a leading initiative dedicated to promoting sustainability, whose work so far has been to repurpose unwanted running shoes and prevent them from going into landfills. In the next exciting phase of their journey, they are now accepting hiking and walking boots for recycling and partnering with outdoor retailers, brands and associations to accept outdoor boots and footwear.
This is a turning point for the Jogon mission, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of discarded footwear by giving it a new life and encouraging a recycling culture among outdoor enthusiasts. Supported by the Outdoor Industries Association, Jogon aims to remove one million pairs of walking boots and shoes from landfills and find new homes for them.
As part of this commitment, Jogon are actively seeking partnerships with outdoor stores to collect used outdoor footwear from their customers. They are asking retailers to allow customers to drop off their used walking boots and shoes in-store, and Jogon will ensure they are either reused or repurposed, ensuring they don’t end up in a landfill. Once a minimum weight of footwear has been collected, a simple link from JogOnAgain.com takes the retailer to an Evri website where, for a small postage fee, anyone in the UK can book a pickup and JogOn takes care of the rest.
Tony Piedade, Founder & CEO at JogOn has said: “We believe that every step taken outdoors should contribute to a healthier planet. By now accepting walking boots, we’re taking an important step towards reducing waste and promoting environmentally friendly practices within the outdoor community. Whilst anyone in the UK can send us their walking boots in the post, we believe that outdoor stores, venues and events will play a crucial role in this initiative, providing a convenient drop-off point for customers and helping to raise awareness about the importance of giving boots a second life while they are still usable, but more importantly, ensuring that when these have reached the end of useful life, that they are properly disposed of and do not end up in landfill.”
CEO of the Outdoor Industries Andrew Denton commented: “The OIA are committed to sustainable projects like this, our own members are asking for them and their customers demanding them. We are delighted to support this and would urge anyone who can to collect outdoor footwear knowing that you are helping efforts to ensure zero outdoor footwear end up going to landfill.”
Since 2022, Jogon has also been a proud partner of the Running Industry Alliance (RIA), an independent national trade organisation built for the UK & Ireland running industry with the aim to collectively help its members to drive the running forward to improve the sport and business of running. The continued support of the RIA has been a huge driver in getting more of the running community to think about the impact of discarding their running shoes and work with Jogon to tackle waste in the running industry head-on. This new partnership between Jogon and the OIA aims to achieve the same change in attitude among the hiking and walking community.
