Career background & highlights…

My background spans several different industries from hospitality to events with a short stint working in New York. Early in my career I worked for some of London’s top 5-star hotels in the marketing departments. A huge highlight was working on the launch of One Aldwych Hotel. I was fortunate to be involved from the very beginning of the build project so got to know the hotel inside out and all its USPs. The hours were long but I loved everything about hotel life and met some very special lifelong friends.

After leaving the hospitality industry I worked for Reed Exhibitions and looked after the marketing and business development of 100% Design, a large interior design exhibition that took place in London. It was a fantastic opportunity and very exciting to be working with some the UK’s top designers and furniture makers. Another career highlight was launching 100% Design in Moscow and Shanghai.

In 2012 I moved to New York with my family, where I worked as a freelance marketing consultant for an organic skin care company before returning to the UK and finding my current position at Aspire.

Role at Aspire…

I am responsible for the day-to-day Account Management of several of Aspire’s marketing clients working on the delivery of a wide range of marketing activities and strategies.

How far removed is your childhood dream from what you are doing today?

From a young age I always loved sport so for many years I was keen to become a PE teacher. At secondary school we had the most amazing Sports teacher who was hugely inspirational and actively encouraged me to follow my dream. Despite my early career taking a different path I now feel fortunate that my career has come full circle and I’m now working in the health and fitness industry.

Best adventure?

After my A Levels I worked for Camp America at a huge camp in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. I spent most days teaching beach volleyball on a specially created beach court – the kids loved it and my English accent! I met some amazing people plus got the chance to travel all over North America for over a month…the people, sheer scale of the country and exciting experiences just blew me away!

Adventure you most desire?

One day I would love to walk the ‘Camino de Santiago’ with my husband (and boys, but that’s wishful thinking). The allure of walking through some of Europe’s most beautiful landscapes whilst enjoying Spanish food and wine and meeting others along the way is very high on my bucket list….one day hopefully.

Someone you really admire?

I am in awe of the work and dedication of all NHS workers especially during the past few years. The pandemic has put incredible amounts of stress and so many challenges on all NHS teams but they still continue to put patients first and go above and beyond their job, at times risking their own lives.

What kept you going during lockdown?

My early morning dog walks and runs along the River Thames near where I live in Teddington. The light, reflections on the water, being surrounded by nature and getting the chance to listen to some memorable Podcasts really set me up for the day.

Something the team doesn’t know about me but they do now?

I am 97% Irish! I have no accent as I was adopted and brought up in England but my pale completion and freckles are a big give away!

What’s recently grabbed your attention?

The incredible growth of TikTok (it’s predicted to reach 755 million monthly users in 2022). Not only am I amazed at how fast the platform has grown since it launched in 2016 but how it is appealing more and more to an older demographic, which I guess is a result of the global lockdown and more brands getting creative with it. Very interested to see what happens over the next few years…..

What do you love about this industry?

Helping people to be healthy. Through our clients and the brands we work with I like to think that we can encourage and support people in some way to change and improve their lives by staying healthy and fit. I also love how passionate everyone is about the industry, which certainly makes going to work every day that much brighter.

Outside of work Becky enjoys

Trying to keep up with my three teenage boys! I can often be found running (albeit slowly) with my dog in Bushy Park and along the river tow path. I also love to cook, trying new dishes and taking the boys out of their food comfort zone is always fun!
