Career background & highlights…

I finished my BSc in Marketing in 2020, and just finished my MSc at the University of Southampton, in Digital Marketing. Up until then I’ve been in education or doing freelance social media marketing work alongside my postgraduate degree.

Role at Aspire…

I’m a Social Media and Marketing Executive.

How far removed is your childhood dream for what you are doing today?

Oh gosh, I think originally, I really wanted to be a zookeeper or work with animals, but I was terrible at science and maths in school, so that idea quickly faded!

I think I’ve always had an interest in advertising and went through a phase where I really wanted to work in the music industry. Until I started playing basketball competitively as a teenager, and slowly that interest changed to sport and advertising. So, I guess very similar! I’ve always wanted to something a bit more “hands-on” and creative, as I find that far more engaging.

Best adventure?

I think how I grew up was a great adventure. I was born in Brunei, then we moved to the USA, and finally The Netherlands for 10 years, before I began university in the UK. So many life experiences have come from that, which has been incredible.

Adventure you most desire?

I really want to do more travelling, I don’t remember much of Asia and the Far East as I was so young, so I would love to go back there one day.

Someone you really admire?

My Dad is someone I’ll always admire and idolise. He was my best friend, and one of the kindest and most-caring people I’ve ever met, alongside having an incredible work-ethic I can only hope to match one day.

What kept you going during lockdown?

I had my dissertation and final deadlines to do haha! But once I finished my undergraduate degree, that’s when I began freelancing, so I learnt a lot of skills I didn’t already have. Otherwise, it was our ‘wee man’ at my mum’s house, Ted, the dog!

Something the team doesn’t know about me but they do now!

I can speak intermediate-level Dutch. Although far better at reading now than I am speaking, as I haven’t been able to practice for a few years.

I’m a big rugby fan, the Scotland vs Wales six nations match is always a screamer in our house. I’m also a fan of Formula 1, I would love to experience that one day.

What’s recently grabbed your attention?

How many more campaigns there are coming to light that aim to spread mental health awareness. I’m so glad this is a topic that is being spoken about more and more, so we can all support each other to get the help we need.

What do you love about this industry?

Everyone is just so friendly and have great senses of humour. I love how everyone values a work-life balance as well, as we all value how important it is to have a healthy and active lifestyle.

Outside of work Sophie enjoys

Going to the gym, seeing friends regularly, and playing Lacrosse for the University of Southampton Mixed Lacrosse 1st’s!
