For a limited time only, cyclists around the world can experience the wild beauty and legendary climbs of Wales from their own homes with the launch of Virtual RideCymru*, an immersive indoor cycling challenge created by Threshold Sports in partnership with ROUVY.
Launching globally on 16th March and running until 26th April, Virtual RideCymru allows riders to tackle three spectacular sections of the RideCymru route through ROUVY’s advanced augmented reality platform. The experience offers the ideal preview of the in-person RideCymru event, a 250-mile, epic three-day endurance ride taking place for the 2nd time this September. Created by Threshold Sports and supported by the Welsh Government, it takes in some of Wales’ most dramatic terrain, including Eryri (Snowdonia), Mynyddoedd Cambria (Cambrian Mountains), and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
Designed for committed cyclists, indoor training enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike, the virtual challenge blends performance-focused riding with the atmospheric landscapes that make Wales one of the UK’s most compelling cycling destinations. With the Tour de France set to pass through Wales in 2027, the nation’s world-class roads and dramatic climbs are increasingly in the global spotlight, making Virtual RideCymru a timely opportunity for riders everywhere to experience the terrain that continues to inspire elite racing and unforgettable cycling adventures.
Stage 1 – 39.3km hilly route taking in the ancient bronze mines around the Great Orne and ride under the battlements of UNESCO listed Conwy Castle.
Stage 2 – 30km route in the shadow of Wales’ highest mountain, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) before descending through deep valleys and ancient woodlands.
Stage 3 – 18.2km rolling stage through Coed-Y-Brenin (the King’s forest) and the wild heart of Wales.
Virtual RideCymru builds on the success of Threshold Sports’ Virtual Ride Across Britain, which saw more than 21,000 riders take on iconic End-to-End stages of the UK from their indoor setups.
Participants who complete the Virtual RideCymru challenge during the six-week window will have the opportunity to win £500 of Le Col cycling kit and a coveted place on the sold-out RideCymru 2026 event. Riders can also claim a one-month free ROUVY membership using the code RIDECYMRU1M, giving them the chance to explore the route and discover the landscapes that define the physical event.
Nick Tuppen, CEO of Threshold Sports:“People increasingly look outside of the UK for world-class riding, but RideCymru and Virtual RideCymru showcase what we have on our doorstep. The landscapes of Wales are breathtaking, the climbs are unforgettable, and through ROUVY’s immersive technology, riders can now experience that challenge wherever they are in the world. Having ridden the route in person, I can’t wait to relive the magic with thousands of others within the Rouvy platform.”
Wales Minister for Sports, Jack Sargeant added: “Wales is home to some of the most spectacular cycling landscapes in the world, and RideCymru captures that spirit of adventure perfectly. With the Tour de France set to pass through Wales in 2027, it’s an exciting time to celebrate Welsh cycling and showcase the incredible roads that make the country such a special place to ride.”
The real-world RideCymru event has already captured the imagination of endurance cyclists, with all 200 places for the 2026 ride taking place between 11-13th September selling out nearly a year in advance. Demand is expected to grow further when places for the 2027 ride go on sale in September 2026.

Riders can trial Virtual RideCymru now on ROUVY, and take advantage of the 1-month free membership, to experience the adventure of the real RideCymru route: rouvy.com/ridecymru
