On has recently launched three new and very different running shoes, the Cloudmonster, Cloudvista & Cloudrunner. Layla, Vikki & Antonia from Team Aspire each put a different model to test over their favourite local 5K routes. Here’s how they got on…

Aspire’s Layla Smith tests the new Cloudrunner by On

What is it?

New support running shoe from On.

Who is it for?

The everyday runner that’s looking for comfort and support from their shoes. The bonus is these shoes are super lightweight too.

Our verdict

On has become known for making shoes that you can run comfortably in straight from the box. The new Cloudrunner is no exception. As soon as you put the shoes on you experience a feeling extreme comfort, your feet feel secure due to the wide bottom unit at the forefoot and heel, and they are very light! I’d wear these shoes on shorter road runs (mainly because I have other On models that work better for multi-terrain and longer runs – they were actually fine on the towpath). The shoes guide heel to toe movement, which comes from the design of the clouds and also On’s trademarked Speedboard, making running feel a little more natural, which is always a bonus. They look great too, aside from running, I’d wear these with jeans, in which case I probably need two pairs!

At a glance

This is fantastic new running shoe from On that really will suit a wide range of runners, especially those wanting stability, solid support and ultra-cushioning.

It was great to read that more than 90% of the polyester is recycled, with over 30% of the shoe being made from recycled materials. The team at On are serious about their commitment to sustainability and we can see this with each new launch from the brand.

What is it?

Performance running shoe

Who is it for?

An everyday mileage shoe with super soft cushioning and bouncy energy return

Our verdict

This is a game-changer from On, an everyday shoe that that provides softer landings and better rebound thanks to the boosted CloudTec midsole and the integrated Speedboard.  The shoe instantly feels plush and soft while the chunky midsole soaks up the impact on every stride.  The upper is made with recycled light mesh for plenty of ventilation and the soft sockliner adds to a comfortable fit.

Aspire’s Account Manager, Antonia Whitton tests the On Cloudvista

What is it?

 Road-to-trail running shoe

Who is it for?

Beginner trail runners, making it well suited to my local running routes

Our verdict

The Missiongrip outsole includes small rubber lugs to provide traction on the trails. The weather has thankfully been sunny and dry while testing the Cloudvistas so I’ve not had to contend with muddy trails – nor did I particularly want to, as I love the pretty Frost/Mineral colourway! – but the Missiongrip performed well, making for a more stable run on the more gravelly sections of the Parkland Walk.

The Cloudvista is a solid road-to-trail shoe for a trail newbie like me, especially as I mainly run in urban settings with moderate off-road conditions. I do wish the trainers weren’t white though as I have loved wearing them while not running and I’d love to keep them pristine!
